Thomas Wharton was First Secretary of the US Embassy in Paris around 1919.
In the May of that year, Indiana Jones met Wharton's wife and daughter on board a ship from France as he journeyed back to the US from the Paris Peace Conference. When Mrs Wharton learned of Jones's background, she wondered if he was acquainted with Thomas to which the younger man explained that his two-month presence at the conference with the American delegation had only been as a translator.
