A tiger is one of the larger species of feline.

Adventures with tigers

According to legend, the god of war Kartikeya in the shape of tiger fought a warrior in combat after which the tiger and man became one under the name Sherdil.^[1]

One of the statues fashioned by the 16th-century artist Wohat came in the form of a tiger.^[2]

In India in 1914, Prince Kasim Khan was suspected of being a weretiger when one of the big cats was roaming the area.^[3]

It was after defending himself from a tiger called The Great Khan in India that Indiana Jones discovered the Thuggee cult was resurgent at the City of Lightning in 1930.^[4]

Behind the scenes

While developing the story of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz proposed having the Thuggee's backstory revealed during a tiger hunt in order to maintain audience interest in the plot. However, Steven Spielberg desisted of the idea, leading to the suggestion of the banquet sequence, which met with the approval of both Spielberg and George Lucas due its high grossness level.^[5]
