Titanoboa was a semi-aquatic genus of snake.

History[]

Although serpents of such colossal size were long since considered extinct by the 20th century, at least one example of Titanoboa had survived inhabiting the area around a concealed temple in Sukhothai, Siam. Archaeologist Indiana Jones, who had had the misfortune of his ophidiophobia being tested several times during his search into the Great Circle, encountered Titanoboa in November 1937 and, to access the site, had to endure a gauntlet of confrontations with the creature as it pursued him underwater through the temple then was forced to fend it off one on one.[1]

Jones managed to convince the snake into a retreat with several deft throws with ancient weaponry into Titanoboa's exposed mouth. However, the creature's withdrawal was temporary and it later attacked while the archaeologist was stuck in his third brawl with the physically imposing Locus of the Nephilim Order. The sudden reemergence of the snake actually helped distract Locus as the giant cast Jones aside to take on the much larger reptile. Although Jones tried to help, his presence was largely as a spectator watching on as Locus overpowered and killed the Titanoboa with his bare hands.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

"We used Indiana Jones’ fear of snakes to our advantage here. We also thought about it quite a lot as far as “How much can we use it?” Because we didn’t want to overuse it, either. So, we decided that to do the “feeding the snake” part, you have to establish it for the audience who may not know Indiana Jones. And then, when you go into that area you’re talking about, we wanted to tease it with the small snake on the shoulder in the boat."
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game director Jerk Gustafsson[src]

While Indiana Jones and the Great Circle doesn't identify the snake as Titanoboa (its discovery in the real-world was a 21st century revelation), MachineGames character artist Alexander Blom included the name on his ArtStation account.[2]
