Tom Swift and His Electric Runabout was an adventure novel written by Victor Appelton. Published in 1910, it was the fifth installment in the Tom Swift series, and told the story of Swift's adventures in an electricity-driven car.

Indiana Jones, who was an avid reader of the Tom Swoft books (at least according to his girlfriend Nancy Stratemeyer, who complained that he spent too much time reading the books), found himself reading a copy of the book in 1916 shortly before he himself, perhaps ironically, got involved in the investigation of the theft of a prototype of Thomas Edison's electric motor.
