Troy was an ancient city connected to the Iliad and the Odyssey.
History[]
Legacy[]
One legend put the resting place of the Spear of Achilles at Troy, where Achilles fell in battle to Paris.[1]
Marshall College's Archaeology 101 course had a particular emphasis on Heinrich Schliemann's work at Troy.[2]
In 1900, Henry Walton Jones, Senior noted on his diary that after his conference paper was greeted with embarrassment, skepticism and ridicule; he was heartened by the knowledge that Schliemann was likewise mocked when he set out to find the ruins of Troy.[3]
In 1933, a distracted Indiana Jones asked Miss Angstrom to inform his students to review the material on Troy.[4]
Three years later, Jones thought about the history of archaeology, including Schliemann finding the site of Troy.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
After the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Peruvian Chancellor José Antonio García Belaúnde recommended not going to see the film and compared with the historical inaccuracies of the late Wolfgang Petersen's 2004 film Troy.[6]
