U25 was a German Type IA U-boat and sister ship of U26 launched in 1936. At the beginning of World War II, both U25 and U26, along with U53 were directed to lay mines for enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea.
However, when plans for the three vessels to refuel at Spanish ports failed, U25 returned to other operations before ever nearing the Straits of Gibraltar.
