A Gravettian Venus Figurine from Upper Paleolithic Europe survived into the 20th century.

American archaeologist Indiana Jones found the object while journeying through the Vatican in 1937 as he investigated the grander mystery of the Great Circle. He realized it was a lost artifact from elsewhere on the continent and resolved to see it returned to its "rightful home".[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Although named for the Roman goddess Venus, the figurine's appellation is retroactive and was applied in the 19th century. The Gravettian culture predates Rome by ten of thousands of years.
