"Maybe that's the way people act toward kings in your world, but in Pincoya there's no need for any show of veneration. If anything, I should bow to them. Those men saved my life when the Wayua attacked my palace."
―Vicard[src]

Vicard was the king of Pincoya, an interior world island nation, and the father of Salandra. He was tall, broad-shouldered and had green eyes and a beard. Vicard also had the ability to shapeshift, becoming another person or an animal.

Biography[]

King Vicard counseled the United Council to have one of the portals from the interior world closed so that it could not be used by Maleiwa's father, and had restrictions placed on the Wayua.[1]

In 1928, Vicard dispatched his daughter to follow Maleiwa to the Channels of Paradise.[1]

In 1929, while Salandra was away on the Caleuche, Vicard was deposed by Maleiwa and fled from Pincoya to Roraima. He later traveled to Santa Marta, Colombia, and took on the form of Ricardo, a fourteen-year-old boy with dark eyes, dark skin, and black hair. There, he offered his services as a guide to Indiana Jones and Salandra, and took them via taxi to the hotel. While Salandra recovered from traveling into the outer world, "Ricardo" helped Jones search for a boat to Cartagena and told him that the Kogis would have answers about the Gatekeepers, but they were cautious of outsiders and may have been responsible for the recent disappearance of Father James.[1]

Ricardo guided Salandra and Jones along the coast and into the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta to learn more about the Gatekeepers and find the missing padre. The next morning, Jones thanked and paid him and sent Ricardo back to town. Ricardo then traveled up to the Kogi outpost ahead of the pair, and dressed as a Kogi. When Jones arrived, he recognized Ricardo who revealed that he was a Pincoyan, and the story of Father James was a lie to get Jones to not abandon this quest. When the Wayua emerged from the portal between worlds and attacked the Kogis, Ricardo fled into the forest. He encountered Jones, and pleaded with Jones to stop Maleiwa, claiming that his parents had been lost to Maleiwa's forces. He and Jones followed Mama Juan to the elder Kogi's portal in a ceiba tree into Roraima, and then Ricardo revealed himself as Vicard on the other side.[1]

After Jones recovered from a weeklong sleep, Vicard convinced Jones of the importance of his role in stopping Maleiwa, and Jones finally agreed. With Salandra, they traveled down the tepui, met up with several of Vicard's loyal guards and began to head out across the Wayua plain. Wayuan horsemen attacked, and the party were forced to escape through Swampland. Between the Wayan attack and the attacked by a dragon and a giant, all the guards were killed. Vicard went out to search for any surviving guards but was pinned down by the giant when Jones and Salandra found him. He and Salandra transformed and fled, but later caught up with Jones on a beach. Jones used his recent dream of Maleiwa on the march to the Unicorn's Gate to help guide them through the foggy hills toward Maleiwa's army. The Wayuan forces trapped the three and when Maleiwa ordered Jones' death, Vicard jumped in the way of Wayuan crossbow darts. Unicorns arrived to fight against Maleiwa's forces, and Salandra stayed with her injured father to help keep him alive with her healing abilities.[1]

After Jones had returned to the outer world, he saw a glimpse of a man that vaguely reminded him of Vicard, and realized that Salandra's and Vicard's doubles in his world could be him and Marcus Brody.[1]
