- "Jesus Christ! What have you done?"
- ―Indiana Jones, to Vittorio[src]
Vittorio was an Italian Blackshirt who got entangled in a tumultuous family affair involving his wife and his own mother-in-law.
Biography[]
By 1937, Vittorio was a Blackshirt married to Ines but engaged in an affair with Adriana, his own mother-in-law, only to learn that his indiscretions had resulted in both women becoming pregnant at the same time.[1]
On October 23, 1937, Vittorio was stationed in Vatican City as part of Prime Minister Benito Mussolini and Father Cesare Ventura's clandestine efforts to give Nazi archaeologist Emmerich Voss access to the Vatican Secret Archive. He learned from Ventura that an American priest was in the Holy See and, despite the upheaval in his personal life, Vittorio was overjoyed at hearing a US accent in the Sistine Chapel. As a fan of the country, he quickly accosted "Father Gallagher" and directed him to a nearby confessional to hear his sins before the American could object.[1]
However, Vittorio's unusual circumstances with Adriana caught Gallagher off-guard and the man's blasphemous outburst made the Blackshirt realize that he was not dealing with an ordained priest but an unorthodox archaeologist: Indiana Jones, disguised in a cassock to retrieve a stolen Cat Mummy. Before the Fascist had time to properly react, Jones sent a left-hook through the partition and knocked out Vittorio, allowing his infiltration of the Vatican to continue unimpeded and eventually scooped up Adriana's letter to her son-in-law, but not before telling the unconscious Blackshirt that he had to admit he had earned his punch.[1]
