Wayua is one of the countries of the Interior world, on the inside of the earth's crust, and is home to the Wayuan people. It borders a green ocean on one side and Roraima on the other.
Geography[]
Wayua is primarily a harsh desert, but also has other environments. One side of the country is on a green ocean. The main Wayuan city is located on this coast, with narrow streets and buildings built of adobe. Maleiwa's castle sits in the city, on a rocky jut into the water. Past the sandy beaches of the coast, the rocky desert stretches for long distances.[1]
Beyond the desert lie grassy hills and lowlands and then a region with more water-filled environments. A large thicket of mangroves form a water forest, bordered by a sandy beach. Further back lies the vast swamp, commonly known as Swampland. Home to fearsome predators, the swamp is full of treacherous bogs and mudpits, and little food sources. Adjacent to the the swamp territory are foggy purple hills and moorlands, home to herds of unicorns. The hilly country and lowlands eventually give way to flat grassy plains. The plains and the swamp both extend all the way up to the border of Roraima, at the base of a barren tepui.[1]
The region has gateways to the surface world, including the Unicorn's Gate, which moves around in the misty hills that the unicorns call home.[1]
Adventures in Wayua[]
By late 1928, Maleiwa, following in his father's footsteps, came to rule Wayua, likely using shadow-thaum to influence his people to support him. In September of that year, he left the country and went through the Channels of Paradise and claimed the alicorn.[1]
In September 1929, Maleiwa and his forces left Wayua and traveled through the gate to Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta on the outer world, to find and kill Indiana Jones. Realizing that Jones had escaped back into the interior world, Maleiwa returned home. Arriving in Roraima, Jones, Vicard, and Salandra came down from the barren tepui, and were joined by a contingent of Vicard's guards. Crossing into Wayua, they initially chose to travel the grassy plains on their way to stop Maleiwa, but a mounted Wayuan patrol forced them into Swampland. Between the Wayuan horsemen and the dangers of the swamp - a Wayuan giant, some dragons, and even a dinosaur, Vicard's guards were all killed, but Jones escaped through to the mangrove forest. With Vicard and Salandra rejoining him, Jones, guided by a dream of being a falcon flying over the country, chose the direction of travel.[1]
Maleiwa and three men, all dressed in outer world clothes, rode out on horseback across the desert to the grassy hills. He hoped to summon and open the Unicorn's Gate with the alicorn, and travel through that portal to reach Adolf Hitler in the outer world for an alliance. Jones and his companions tracked them down in the fog, but were captured by the Wayuans. Ordered by their leader to execute the captives, the guards shot their dart crossbows at Jones, but Vicard dove in their way, becoming gravely injured. Unicorns arrived in a herd to attack the Wayuans, but Maleiwa had escaped through the gate, depositing him on top of the Statue of Liberty. Jones followed him through, while Salandra stayed behind to heal her father.[1]
