In 1936, the American archaeologist Indiana Jones called a sorcerer the Wizard of Oz after the man blew up the Tower of Tears in Yezd due to his firing the archaeologist's gun in a room filled with natural gas.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Frank Darabont's script Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods, one of the many screenplays considered for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, had a non-verbal mention to the Wizard of Oz: when Vernon Oxley was possessed by Los Dioses' Alien, Darabont's screenplay compared the alien's reformed head floating above Oxley to "like the Great and Powerful Oz".[2]
