The Chinese-Dutch family of Wu Han included:
- Wu Han's father - Apparent patriarch
- Wu Han's mother - Apparent matriarch
- Wu Han - Archaeologist, scholar, smuggler and jack-of-all-trades
- Wu Han's sister - Sister of Wu Han
- Other relatives who worked as acrobats
By 1933, despite leaving his political science career before obtaining his degree for their sake, all of Wu Han's family save for himself perished due to an influenza outbreak. Their ashes came into possession of the Shanghai crime lord Lao Che, who forced Wu Han into servitude until American archaeologist Indiana Jones.[1] Two years later, however, Wu Han was killed by Che's son Chen while assisting Indy.[2] In light of his friend's sacrifice, Indy sent some money to his family[3] by wiring it to them for help once he went to Bangkok.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
James Kahn's novelization of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom mentions that Indiana Jones sent Wu Han's family some money because of his sacrifice.[3] However, since the release of Max McCoy's novel Indiana Jones and the Dinosaur Eggs, which reveals that all of Wu Han's closest relatives died due to an influenza outbreak (though it notes they were his immediate family),[1] it's exactly unknown to which relatives Jones sent the money to.
