"Scheiß!"
―Young SS Officer[src]

The Young SS Officer was a Nazi official in the Schutzstaffel who assisted in the transfer of looted art and artifacts into Germany from occupied territories during World War II.

He encountered the American archaeologist Indiana Jones in 1944.

Biography[]

In 1944, the young SS officer was assisting in the looting and transportation of antiquities from an occupied Nazi castle in France. The operation was disrupted by Allied airplanes which were bombing the fortress and the surrounding area. Having captured Basil Shaw and presented him to Weber, the man was order by the colonel to take Shaw to his railcar cabin for interrogation.[1]

During the journey through the French Alps, the officer assisted Weber. The interrogation was interrupted by a soldier stating the Lance of Longinus was stolen, forcing the men to pursue Indiana Jones who infiltrated the train.[1]

He and and other soldiers would discover that the railcar holding Shaw was locked, and the young officer commanded them to climb on the sides and top of the train, a decision that would ultimately lead to his demise as a partially destroyed anti-air gun shot him off the vehicle.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Young SS Officer was portrayed by Francis Chapman in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.[1]

He had been previously identified as being named "Dietrich" in early IMDb cast lists, but there's no evidence for this in the film itself. He's never referred to by name in dialogue and he's only called "Young SS Officer" in the credits.[2]
